Small groups at Mountview Baptist Church exist for the purpose of discipling believers. Small groups of 10–14 believers meet regularly under the leadership of a gifted teacher. The goal is to equip, minister to and grow disciples who will then go out to equip, minister to and grow others.
We equip believers through observing, interpreting and applying scripture for the purpose of serving God. We get our mandate from 2 Timothy 3:16–18:
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
We minister to each other by loving each other through prayer, acts of kindness and accountability. We minister to others through acts of service.
“A new command I give you; Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:34–35)
We work to grow disciples—lovers and followers of Jesus Christ.
“If you love Me, you will obey what I command.” (John 14:15)
“Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.” (Hebrews 5:13–4)
