Dictionaries define worship as both a noun and a verb. As a noun, most would describe worship as the love, devotion, and reverence for a deity or sacred object. Worship as a verb is the expression of this devotion.
The Bible uses the word worship many times—all involving the ideas expressed in our modern dictionaries. However, the Bible also describes worship as both an individual and collective activity. Individually, we offer ourselves to God as a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1). Collectively, we gather to honor and praise God (Acts 2:43–47).
Worship, then, is giving ourselves individually and collectively to God for His honor and glory.
