Community ministry

Jesus commanded us to “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them everything I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:19)

The Community Ministries team seeks opportunities for our congregation to serve our community, at the local, state, national and international level. We actively participate in our missions effort, allocating both human and financial resources.

American Baptist Churches

We are a member of:

  • American Baptist Churches USA
  • American Baptist Churches Ohio
  • Columbus Baptist Association

A distinguishing characteristic of American Baptist Churches is its commitment to supporting missionary activities. This emphasis was inspired by Adoniram Judson, who, in the early 1800s served in Burma through great personal tragedy.

Northern Baptist Churches formed in 1844, and formally organized in 1907. The name was changed to the American Baptist Convention in 1950, and to American Baptist Churches USA in 1972.

Mountview commits funding each year to ABC United Missions, which supports regional, national and international ministries.

Camping

Since 1999, the congregation of Mountview has staffed the Discovery Camp for 3rd–6th grade children. Pastor Kevin leads this mission as the camp director, and members of the congregation serve as counselors, worship leaders, healthcare professionals, and facilities maintenance workers.

In the weeks prior to the opening of the camp, there will be several work sessions on Saturdays to prepare the facility for the camping season.

International missionaries

We provide direct support to two foreign missionaries: Kit Ripley in Thailand and Dave and Joyce Reed in La Paz, Mexico. In 2007, a team from our congregation traveled to La Paz to directly participate in ministry with Dave and Joyce.

Friends of the Homeless

Volunteers from our church prepare and serve meals to the men at this homeless shelter in downtown Columbus on each fifth Saturday of the month. The preparation time is approximately three hours (at our church), and another two hours is spent delivering and serving the meal, and cleanup afterward.
